Donald Trump beats Clinton to White House

Donald Trump is to be elected as 45th President of the United States of America.

The son of Tong-woman Mary Anne MacLeod, born in 1912, who emigrated across the Atlantic in 1930 - the fourth of the Macleod sisters to do so - edged out political rival Hilary Clinton to take the White House.

This victory came down to a handful of key swing states, with his surprise win in Wisconsin taking hom through the required 270 out of 538 electoral college votes needed to win the presidendcy.

His Leodhsaich Mary Anne Macleod married Fred Trump in New York in 1936 with the couple having four children. Mary Anne died in 2002, aged 90.

Trump’s Lewis parentage makes him the first ever US President to be eligible to play in Lewis football’s Eilean an Fhraoich Cup - the rules allowing players onluy either born in a rural village or where a parent was born.
