THE volunteer crew of Stornoway RNLI had an early start this morning (Friday, March 4), when they launched at 4am to the aid of a French trawler.

The FV Symphonie, with a crew of 14, developed engine trouble whilst fishing for monk fish off the Butt of Lewis in the early hours of the morning.

The Tom Sanderson lifeboat launched and on arrival at the scene secured a tow rope between the two vessels before towing the stricken trawler to the safety of Stornoway harbour, arriving shortly after 11am.
