A community company on the Isle of Skye is celebrating the start of the New Year with a funding boost thanks to players of a charity lottery.
Edinbane Community Company was awarded £10,000 by People’s Postcode Trust, a grant-giving charity, funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
The organisation will use the money to develop a children’s play area in the village of Edinbane.
The three month project will enable the Company to address local residents’ limited access to recreational facilities, providing a safe place for children to meet, play and exercise. Adult gym equipment will also attract older users to the park, creating a central meeting place for locals and visitors to socialise in the village.
“The creation of a children’s play area in Edinbane is much-needed. Local families currently have to travel at least 14 miles to access recreational facilities in Portree, or 8 miles to Dunvegan, so having something on our own doorsteps will be great – and this will also hopefully help to attract more young families to the village.” (Billy Shanks – Edinbane Community Company Director / local resident and parent.)
