Election day for Trust and Comhairle

It’s election day in the islands with the Stornoway Trust vote taking place as well as a by-election for a new councillor for Benbecula and North Uist.

In the Stornoway Trust elections nine candidates are standing for five places on the Stornoway Trust.

The results will be declared this evening (Thursday). For those who have not submitted postal votes, a ballot box will be available within the Estate Office till 8pm tonight.

The nine candidates are: Matthew Bruce; Hamish Budge; Donald Crichton; Calum Maclean; Colin Maclean; Murdo Maclennan; Morris Macleod; Alexander John Murray; and Murdo Murray.

Voting is also taking place in the Beinn na Foghla agus Uibhist a Tuath ward with two candidates standing in the election to represent the area at the Comhairle.

Roslyn Margaret MacPherson is standing for the Scottish National Party (SNP) and Andrew Walker is standing as an Independent candidate. There will be seven polling stations:- the Drill Hall, Lionacleit, Council Offices, Balivanich; Carinish Hall; the Janitor’s House, Paible School; Taigh Sgire Sholais; Lochmaddy Community Centre and Berneray Community Centre. Polling will take place between the hours of 7am and 10pm today.
