Establishment of Defibrillator Service in Harris

There is an ongoing proposal to acquire and establish Defibrillator machines in a number of areas throughout Harris.

In order to achieve this objective we have invited a professional team from Skye led by Ross Cowie, who on surviving a serious heart attack did, on his own, set up the Group known nationally as ‘Lucky to be Here’ which has been responsible for saving so many lives throughout Scotland.

On Monday November 25th two meetings will take place in the Harris Hotel where the Sgiathanachs will be present.

The first meeting will take place at 4pm (weather and CalMac permitting) and will be attended by Paramedics and others involved in Medical Services throughout Lewis and Harris to discuss the establishment of a Heart Start Team in Harris.

The second meeting will start at 7pm and we are inviting as many people as possible who would like to be trained as First Responders.

If Monday evening is oversubscribed a second course will be arranged for Tuesday morning.

A considerable sum of money has been guaranteed by a local Charity, to be identified on the night once there is also the prospect of further funding from another source.

This is a very challenging and important step forward for Harris and we look forward to a good attendance and hope there will be representation from the local School as well.
