Barra RNLI Lifeboat was out over the weekend, launching at 5.30pm on Saturday, September 7th, to the aid of a man aboard the Faroese Registered VN307 MV Vesturland.
The 67 year old crew man was suffering from abdominal pains and was evacuated by the Barra Lifeboat and transferred by ambulance to the Uist and Barra Hospital.
He is being supported by the Benbecula Fishermens Mission.
Built in 1970, with a crew of 12, the MV Vesturland carries out seismic surveys combined with fishing.
In September 2010, while acting as a guard vessel, she searched for 10 hours without success for a large flotation device lost in bad weather from MV Ramford Valiant.
