The Western Isles is expected to experience gale force winds later today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday) as the tail end of Hurricane Leslie move towards the North West of Scotland.
Ferries from Uist and Barra are already cancelled including the 15:40 sailing from Oban to Uist/Barra today and the 7am from Barra and 8:55am from Uist tomorrow.
The freight service between Stornoway and Ullapool is also cancelled overnight tonight.
Stornoway Gazette weather correspondent Dr Eddie Graham of Lews Castle College said on his blog: “Another ex-hurricane is on its way, albeit in the form of a “turbo-boosted” deep Atlantic low pressure system, the remains of ex-hurricane Leslie. Expect winds on Lewis to reach gale force 8 or strong gale 9 with stronger gusts later Thursday night and into Friday. Gusts could reach 60mph+, so care will be needed if you’re out and about.
He said the eye of the storm would be much further north and Orkney and Shetland would have stronger winds.
