Extra sailings will take place on the CalMac ferry network on Thursday and Saturday to minimise the planned strike action on Friday.

Talks are still ongoing today (Wednesday) between RMT and TSSA and CalMac but timetables have now been altered or extended in preparation for the expected disruption.

A statement on the CalMac website said: “Due to RMT trade union industrial action taking place on Friday 10 July, we have reviewed our timetables to ensure we can provide as many sailings as possible, in an effort to minimise disruption to our customers.

“As the industrial relations situation evolves these timetables may change further so please keep checking if you are travelling on this date.”

There will be extra sailings between Stornoway and Ullapool on the Uig-Tarbert-Lochmaddy triangle and also on the Oban-Lochboisdale-Castlebay services.

On Saturday there will be extra sailings from Stornoway leaving at 8.30pm arriving in Ullapool at 11pm; leaving again at midnight and arriving in Stornoway at 2:45am
