The Western Isles Emergency Planning Co-ordinating Group (WIEPCG) has this week launched their new website and Facebook page.
The Facebook page has been launched as a means of delivering key messages to the wide audience accessible through the social media site. Messages regarding disruptions such as road closures and service losses due to severe weather will be posted on the page.
Chair of WIEPCG, Chief Inspector Gordon MacLeod, said: “This new Facebook page will provide us with a valuable means of getting information out to the public as quickly as possible. Many people are signed up to Facebook and even those who aren’t are able to receive information about things posted on the site from friends and family. The partner agencies will be working together to ensure that up-to-date information is communicated via the page to provide users with regular notifications about emergencies or disruptions in the Western Isles. We would encourage all Facebook users in the Western Isles to ‘like’ the page so that they can receive notifications every time it is updated.”
