Fèis Eilean an Fhraoich kicks off in Stornoway Primary School today (Monday) and promises to be an action packed week for all involved.

The week will consist of a range of tuition classes, music sessions, games and concerts and participants of all ages will be taking part.

Participants will receive tuition in Drama, Singing, Media and a range of instrumental classes, including Guitar, Accordion, Melodeon, Fiddle, Drumming, Clarsach, Keyboard, Chanter & Piping.

A Cròileagan and Primary 1-3 Class is being held for younger participants and Teen Fèis classes are available for intermediate to advanced participants. Some of the classes are now full to capacity, with Drama in particular being a particular favourite once again.

A Showcase Concert will be held in An Lanntair on Wednesday 25th July at 7.30pm, featuring Arthur Cormack, Jenna Cumming, Calum Alex Macmillan, Alasdair White, Norrie Maciver, Catriona Watt, Joy Dunlop, and various other Fèis tutors. The MC for the evening will be Councillor John A Maciver. Tickets for this are available from the An Comunn Gàidhealach office in Perceval Square or from Stornoway Primary School during Fèis week.

Arthur Cormack, Fèisean nan Gàidheal’s Chief Executive said: “We are delighted to see Fèis Eilean an Fhraoich going from strength to strength each year and that it now attracts young people over a wide age-range. I am looking forward to taking part in the cèilidh being organised to raise funds and to showcase the talents of the Fèis tutors. I am sure we’ll have an enjoyable evening. I would like to congratulate the small committee that keeps the Fèis going from year to year and cannot praise them highly enough for the many opportunities they create for young people in Lewis.”

The Fèis will draw to a close on the Friday evening with a Grand Concert in the Stornoway Primary School Assembly Hall featuring performances from the participants.

A spokesperson for the Committee said: “We would like to thank all the volunteers who are involved with the organisation and running of the Fèis and with all of the fundraising events that take place each year. We are grateful to our funders Fèisean nan Gàidheal, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Highlands & Islands Enterprise and Bòrd na Gàidhlig for their ongoing support. Mòran taing dhuibh uile.”
