Three members of the Uist Youth Voice travelled to Stornoway recently to find out more about Comhairle nan Eilean Sair by attending one of the full Council Meetings.

They got the opportunity to spend time over lunch with local councillors and also met some new councillors from the Lewis and Harris area.

The group said the councillors all made everyone feel very welcome and all took time speak to each member.

The Uist Youth Voice members attended the Education and Children’s Service meeting in the Council Chambers in the afternoon, where they got a better insight of the decision making process within the Comhairle.

And after the meeting the trio got the opportunity to do a radio interview for Isles FM, to speak about the day and their experience.

The Uist Youth Voice would like to thank our local councillors for their kind contributions to allow travel up to Stornoway for the meeting.

“We enjoyed the trip and we all feel that we now know more about the work that the Councillors do and how decisions are made within the local government,” they said.

The Western Isles Youth Engagement Project is funded by the Scottish Government and European Community Leader Innse Gall 2007-2013 programme, and Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
