AFTER over 40 years in their offices at Garden Road in Stornoway the Harris Tweed Authority is to move shortly to a suite of offices in the newly redeveloped Stornoway Town Hall.
Chief Executive Lorna Macaulay said: “Our present offices are just too big for us. It will be a better profile for the HTA to be within the civic building in the centre of the town. There is a lot of traffic every week with journalists, buyers or just visitors. It will be more open to the public. We have been fortunate to obtain a tenant for our existing offices for the next three years.”
The first Harris Tweed Office was opened in London in 1909 and then they opened one in Inverness in 1962 before the purpose built offices in Garden Road were built in 1969.
