The Typist, the first production of Kam-Ri Dance Theatre will play at an Lanntair on Thursday, February 19 on its Scottish tour.

The Typist is a full-on Scottish/Spanish, political, flamenco, filmic, theatrical dance extravaganza.

It tells the little known tale of ‘Los Ninos De La Guerra’ - the child evacuees who were shipped to the UK at the start of the Spanish Civil War, and based on interviews with some of the surviving Ninos, now in their 90s - some from Scotland, some London-based.

In 1937, during the Spanish Civil War, 4,000 children - known as ‘Los Niños de la Guerra’ – were evacuated to the UK. This story follows one of them, Esperanza, a typist, twenty years later in post-war Britain, who decides to make the dangerous journey back to her past, and Franco’s Spain.

Kam-Ri dance theatre are a newly formed company, led by Kerieva McCormick and Grid Iron’s Ben Harrison. The Typist is their first production.

Co-Director Kerieva McCormick, a renowned performer, also plays the part of Esperanza, leading a cast of internationally acclaimed flamenco performers and musicians.

The Typist album soundtrack will be Kerieva McCormick’s third album to date of her own compositions. She is conducting a Doctoral research in Dance Theatre at the University of Glasgow.

Ben Harrison was the Director of the global smash-hit Peter Pan for 360 Entertainment which opened in London in 2009 and toured the US for two years playing to over a million people.

In 2008 he directed The Tailor of Inverness at the Edinburgh Fringe for Dogstar, which has subsequently toured to Australia, Sweden, Germany, Poland and Ukraine and will transfer to New York in 2015.

Also performing in The Typist is renowned flamenco dancer Raúl Prieto, former principle male dancer in modern legend Sara Baras’ company Ballet Flamenco Sara Baras.

The stunning flamenco dance is accompanied by breath-taking special effects and a specially commissioned score, and performed by a live band.

Scottish virtuoso flamenco guitarist Andrew Robinson is Scottish born and remarkably one of the most accomplished flamenco guitarists in the UK, with consecutive sell out shows at the Edinburgh Festival 2011/2012/2013, and has won various accolades such as both the Orphee and Chanterelle Guitar prizes for excellence.
