The Crossbost Pier Users Association is holding a public meeting this Thursday to discuss what can be done to improve the facilities at the Pier.
Crossbost Pier is a well-used facility at the heart of the North Lochs community. The pier and surrounding area, is currently used on a daily basis by a number of local rural businesses, supporting employment for over 15 people. It also provides an accessible marine leisure base for a large number of recreational users including; small pleasure boats, yachts, canoe and sub-aqua clubs.
Built over 30 years ago as part of a community initiative, the pier and slipway has provided an excellent base to facilitate the development of the shellfish sector across Lewis and Harris but now with restricted functionality, the opportunities as a modern operational pier are limited.
The Crossbost Pier Users Association is looking to work closely with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, who own the facility, to ensure the pier can once again be used to generate rural employment opportunities in North Lochs, while supporting social and recreational activities for the wider community.
The meeting will take place in Leurbost Hall this Thursday at 7pm.
