Two Stornoway restaurants were raided by police and immigration officers yesterday evening (Thursday, October 3rd).

And it is believed that around seven employees from The Bangla Spice on Church Street and Stornoway Balti House, South Beach Street, were questioned and detained in Stornoway Police Station overnight.

A number of uniformed officials from the Home Office Immigration Enforcement squad had travelled to the island early in the day; and the raids took place shortly before 6pm.

It is thought these to be the first immigration raids in the Western Isles over the past decade.

Further information is expected to be released shortly.
