Local children are being asked to play a part in this summer’s exciting Harris Tweed Hebrides Tattoo, to be held on Friday, August 8th.
Organised by the Stornoway Amenity Trust, the event will feature eight pipe bands, including six time world champions The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band, on Lews Castle Green.
The Trust are planning to hold a Primary School Fancy Dress Competition for individuals and schools entries.
The individual competition is open to any primary school pupil in the Western Isles and £50 will be awarded to the winner; £25 for 2nd place and £10 for third.
A School Competition will also be held and the Tatù Innse Gall Fancy Dress Shield will be awarded to the best collective entry of at least ten fancy dressed pupils from a Western Isles Primary School .
The winning school will receive £100 plus the Shield; 2nd will receive £50 and 3rd £25.
Tattoo Hebrides will be held on August 8th at 7.30pm and alongside The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band will be Northern Constabulary Community Pipe Band; Lewis Pipe Band; Isle of Skye Pipe Band; Uist Pipe Band; Sgoil Lionacleit Pipe Band; Strathaven and District Pipe Band and Ullapool and District Pipe Band.
There will also be performances from percussion sensations Sambayabama, local dancers, island pony and riding club displays, Gaelic choirs as well as a dramatic appearance by The Vikings from Shetland and a firework display finale over Lews Castle.
The following day there will also be a special Homecoming Carnival on August 9th to coincide with the Tattoo.
A Grand Concert will be held in Lewis Sports Centre on August 9th and will feature The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band in concert as well as internationally renowned singer Julie Fowlis; The Lochies; Danns an Rathaid; Sambayabamba and Gaelic choirs.
