The Annual General Meeting of the Western Isles Association Scottish Conservative & Unionist Party took place on Thursday 3rd September 2015, at the County Hotel, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis.
Ranald Fraser, the chairman in his report reflected on the achievements of the Association during the past 12 months and how it remained active on several fronts.
He was delighted to report an increase in membership and support from all corners of the Western Isles as well as an increase in financial contributions
The highlight of the year was the General Election in May and an expression of thanks was extended to Mr Mark Brown for his efforts during the campaign.
The Association was also grateful to Jamie McGrigor MSP, Annabel Goldie MSP and Mary Scanlon MSP who travelled to our islands and campaigned on behalf of the Constituency.
The chairman also paid tribute to the loyal members of the Association who independently funded the electoral campaign, the impact of which secured the best result in 14 years.
An additional benefit derived from the local funds was securing a campaign office in the centre of Stornoway which was manned by volunteers from the Association.
The chairman noted the retirement of Mr Murdo Macleod, the previous chairman. He expressed his thanks on behalf of the Association for all his hard work and efforts during his many years as chairman.
The meeting considered the activities and programme for the ensuing year and in particular the Scottish Parliamentary Election which is due to take place in May 2016. The list of prospective parliamentary candidates was also reviewed.
The Association’s next meeting is scheduled to take place on Thursday 26th November 2015. The planned programme for the year includes a function at Christmas and a Burns Supper in the New Year.
Office Bearer for the year, unanimously elected are: Chairman Ranald Fraser; Vice-Chairman Donnie Macleod; Secretary Murdoch Graham; Treasurer Peter Macleod and Minute Secretary Elizabeth Macphail.
