Kenny MacAskill MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Justice in the Scottish Government, will give this year’s prestigious Angus Macleod Memorial Lecture in Gravir, South Lochs, on Friday 25th October.
The title of the lecture, the tenth in the annual series to celebrate the life of the late Angus ‘Ease’ Macleod MBE of Calbost, South Lochs, will be ‘Opportunities of Independence for Island Communities’.
Commenting on the announcement, John Randall, chairman of the Islands Book Trust who organise the lecture in conjunction with Comunn Eachdraidh na Pairc and Angus’s family, said: “This is a great honour, and we will be delighted to welcome Kenny MacAskill in October. While previous lecturers have included leading UK politicians from different parties such as Charles Kennedy and Brian Wilson, this is the first time the lecture will be given by a serving senior Minister from the Scottish Government.
“I feel sure that Angus ‘Ease’ would have approved, and relished the opportunity to hear arguments on the topical subject of Scottish independence and the issues this raises for island communities.
“It is also particularly appropriate that Kenny MacAskill will be giving the tenth lecture in view of his family connections with South Lochs.
“We look forward to another great evening, and would ask people to put the date in their diaries now.”
