Bha Latha Litreachais a’ Mhòd Nàiseanta Rìoghail am bliadhna air leth soirbheachail do ghrunn de leabhraichean Gàidhlig uile air am foillseachadh le Acair Earr, luchd-foillseachadh stèidhichte ann an Leòdhas.

Choisinn “Dol Fodha na Grèine”, air a dheasachadh le D A Moireasdan an duais airson leabhar inbheach a b’fheàrr. Chaidh an leabhar a cho-fhoillseachadh le Comunn Eachdraidh Nis agus tha e na chunntas tiamhaidh air a’ bhuaidh a thug a’ Chiad Chogadh air aon choimhearsnachd.

Ann an earrann nan deugairean `s I Fiona Nic an Aba a choisinn an duais sin, leis an leabhar aice – “Saighdearan na Sràidean”. `S e seo a’ chiad leabhar aig Fiona agus tha e mar phàirt den t-sreath Sgrìob fo eàrlais Stòrlann tro Acair.

Tha an nobhail aig Fiona mar aon le ùghdarran ùra fo chunnradh aig Acair arson stuth ùr a sgrìobhadh.

Ann an earrann na cloinne, `s I Catriona NicIlleDhuibh a choisinn an duais leis an leabhar iongantach aice “Cairistiona Camaillean agus an sgoth dhraoidheil” le measgachadh de sgrìobhadh agus dealbhan air an tarraing leatha fhèin, eisimpleir sònraichte de sgrìobhaiche dealbhachaidh ag obair tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig.

Cuideachd mar phàirt de Latha Litreachais chaidh Bàrd a’ Chomuinn airson 2015 ainmeachadh. `S i Floraidh NicPhàil à Tioradh air an deach an urram seo a bhuileachadh, dreuchd a bhios aice airson trì bliadhna. Chaidh leabhar bhardachd Fhloraidh “Maraiche nan Cuantan” fhoillseachadh le Acair.

An deidh làimh thuirt Agnes Rennie, Manaidsear Acair: “Tha Acair moiteil a bhith air uimhir de na prìomh dhuaisean fhoillseachadh. Bu mhath meal-a-naidheachd a chuir air gach neah a shoirbhich ach gu sònraichte air na sgrìobadairean òga agus mi an dòchas gu lean iad sin orra a’ sgrìobhadh.”

Thuirt i cuideachd: “Chaidh na leabhraichean seo uile fhoillseachadh mar thoradh air obair sgioba aig iomadh ìre mar a chithear le “Dol fodha na Grèine” agus sreath Sgrìob. Tha sinn taingeil airson an taic a tha sinn a’ faighinn bho Bhòrd na Gàidhlig agus Comhairle na Leabhraichean.”

Authors honoured at Royal National Mod

Literature Day at this year’s Royal National Mod has been a triumph for a number of Gaelic books.

“Dol Fodha na Grèine”, edited by DA Morrison, received the prize for the best book in the adult category. Co-published by Acair and Comunn Eachdraidh Nis, the book is a poignant account of one community’s experience of World War 1.

In the section for original teenage fiction, the award went to Fiona MacNab for her book “Saighdearan na Sràidean”.

This is Fiona’s first published novel and is one of the Sgrìob series commissioned by Stòrlann from Acair. Fiona’s novel is one of several by new authors engaged by Acair to produce original material.

Catriona MacIlleDhuibh received the award in the category for books for young children. Catriona’s book “Cairistiona Camaillean agus an sgoth dhraoidheil” is a wonderful quixotic combination of story and illustration, a remarkable example of an author illustrator working in Gaelic.

Another highlight of the Literature Day event was the naming of the Bàrd for 2015. The 3-year appointment recognised the work of Flora MacPhail from Tiree. Flora’s collected book of poems “Maraiche nan Cuantan” is published by Acair.

Speaking after the event Agnes Rennie, Acair manager commented: “Acair is proud to have published books by so many of this year’s principle literature award winners. I would like to congratulate winners in all the categories but especially the young writers who received awards today and I hope that they are inspired to continue writing.”

She went on to say “All these books have been published as a result of teamwork at many levels as demonstrated by “Dol Fodha na Grèine” and the Sgrìob series. We are also grateful for support from Bòrd na Gàidhlig and the Gaelic Books Council.”
