Community Learning Hebrides is launching a new programme of community learning classes for winter 2011 in Lewis and Harris.

There are a wide range of classes and workshops taking place in community venues throughout the islands and course subjects include Indian Cookery, Spanish, Painting and Drawing, Furniture Restoration, Boxercise, Pottery, Joinery, Quilting and Christmas Crafts.

If you are interested in obtaining a recognised qualification, there are also certificated courses being run in First Aid, Food Hygiene, Gaelic and Harris Tweed with Individual Learning Accounts available to cover the costs of these accredited classes.

The course programme will run from Monday 31st October 2011 and interested learners can register by phoning the Community Learning Class Hotline No. 01851 822716 or by registering online at

www.cne-siar.gov.uk/commed/clh.

This new website resource includes details of classes being run throughout the Western Isles and, for the first time, brings together all the community learning opportunities across a wide variety of providers including Lews Castle College, An Lanntair and Sport and Health as well as the Community Education Service.

Community Education worker, Graeme Miller, commented: “It is great that all the local providers have come together and contributed to the new website – there is a great range of opportunities ranging from classes which give learners the chance to build confidence or do some exercise right through to classes which give learners the chance to gain recognised qualifications and improve their employability options.”
