Both senior and ladies Lewis Camanachd teams took to the road last weekend heading for Lochaber.
The seniors took on Lochaber seconds in their fifth Marine Harvest North Division Two fixture of the season. The ladies team was heading for The Development League at An Aird in Fort William.
The seniors were still recovering from their gruelling Sutherland Cup tie of the previous week. They had narrowly lost that tie away to Oban Lorn 2-0 on penalties after a 1-1 stalemate of 120 minutes on a very heavy and wet pitch.
Both side started cautiously but it was Lochaber who opened the scoring after 10 minutes with a well constructed move that ended with a shot from the edge of the D giving Lewis keeper Graham Cay no chance.
For the rest of the first half Lochaber’s neat one twos and clinical finishing troubled the Lewis defence and produced another three scores.Paddy Sinclair for Lewis saw a goal bound long range effort well saved by the Lochaber goalie.
Manager Duncan MacIntyre freshened up the Lewis attack with Donald Lamont and Peter Gomez coming on for Will Church and Ally Lamont. However Lochaber knocked in another four in quick succession in the first 20 minutes of the second half. Paul Duke smashed in a last minute consolation for The Leodhasach from the edge of the D. Final score 8-1.
Manager Duncan MacIntyre commented: ”The past few weeks have seen us involved in some very physical encounters and I feel it caught up with us today.Next week ‘s away game to Inverness is now a must win.”
Meanwhile the ladies again did themselves proud in The Development league finishing second on the day against teams from Ardnamurchan, Cowal & Bute, Fort William, Lochaber, Glenurquhart, Skye and Strathglass.
They defeated Ardnamurchan, Cowal & Bute and Skye scoring five goals and conceded none and drew their other four games.
A great achievement in only their second season.
