A major power cut left the whole Western Isles in the dark last night (Wednesday).
A fault in the network cut power to the whole north of Scotland. First Minister Alex Salmond was in Stornoway following the Cabinet meeting in MG ALBA studios yesterday and was staying in the Cabarfeidh Hotel.
Following confirmation that power had been fully restored, First Minister Alex Salmond said:
“This was a serious power outage affecting communities across the Highlands and Islands, including Stornoway.”
He said he had chaired the Scottish Government Resilience Committee where it was made clear that the network operator was working hard to have power restored to all affected homes.
The power went off around 9pm and was restored to parts of Stornoway around 10pm but other areas were without electricity until nearer midnight.
