Blight of fuel poverty in the islands

The Energy Advice Service (TEAS) Fuel Poverty Conference took place on Thursday 28th February to discuss the on-going and prevalent problem of fuel poverty in the Western Isles.
The Western Isles suffers from the highest levels of fuel poverty in the UK, 58% of Western Isles homes are in fuel poverty this is in comparison at the Scottish average of 28%.
The event included guest speakers Dr Lesley Wilkie, Former Director of Public Health and Planning at Grampian NHS and a board member of Energy Action Scotland, Norman Kerr, Director of Energy Action Scotland, David Sigsworth, chairman of the Scottish Fuel Poverty Forum and Rhoda Grant MSP– who all provided a different perspective on the issue of Fuel Poverty.
Speaking after the conference Norman Kerr explained: “The timing of the TEAS Fuel Poverty Conference is very important, fuel poverty continues to grow in Scotland especially in the Islands.
“TEAS have shown what good initiatives are taking place in the Western Isles and it is important that we build on the good work and best practice they have already undertaken.
