Comhairle nan EIlean Siar has put in place arrangements for restoring the bus services for Scalpay that were withdrawn last week.
The Comhairle is currently running a short tendering exercise to replace the three bus contracts and are hopeful that new operators can start on Monday 17 February.
These contracts are for a 7 week duration to coincide with the start of the main contracts from 4 April 2014.
In the immediate period up to 17 February 2014 the Comhairle will operate Scalpay to Tarbert on Saturday 8 and Saturday 15 February.
Saturday services are more urgent as these provide the only link from Scalpay to and from Tarbert on a 4 return timetable.
The Comhairle has received permission from the Office of the Traffic Commissioner to operate these urgent services on a “not for hire or reward” basis. Therefore the council minibus will not take fares.
Scalpay passengers can access services operated by Scalpay Minibus and Hebridean Transport,
The current Monday to Friday 1835 Tarbert to Scalpay will operate from Monday 17 February barring unforeseen developments.
The Comhairle previously implemented immediate replacement school services to Rhenigadale and Aline.
