NHS Western Isles staff and patients will soon be bidding a fond farewell to two popular dentists; one of whom has practised in Stornoway for over 30 years.
Kenneth MacDonald and Peter Hobson will be leaving Western Isles Dental Centre on September 19. Mr MacDonald is retiring after 30 years as a dentist in Stornoway, and Mr Hobson, who has been based in Stornoway for six years, is leaving to practice on the mainland.
The two dentists, who are independent dental practitioners, have contacted all their patients to inform them that they will be leaving.
As independent dental practitioners, Mr Macdonald and Mr Hobson have a contract with NHS Western Isles to provide NHS dental treatment to their patients. NHS Western Isles will now be seeking expressions of interest to establish a new Independent Dental Practice in Stornoway to replace Mr MacDonald’s Practice.
In the interim period, the Health Board will seek to employ locum dentists/dentists on fixed-term contracts to provide dental care for patients previously registered with Mr MacDonald and Mr Hobson.
Any patients with a dental emergency can continue to access the in-hours (9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday) and out-of-hours dental service provided by the Health Board, as normal. This can be accessed by contacting the Dental Centre in-hours and NHS 24 on 111 outside office hours.
For enquiries about routine treatment, patients of Mr MacDonald and Mr Hobson should contact the Dental Centre on 01851 707514.
