Christian Party candidate will have £30,000 campaign budget
THE successful Scottish Christian Party candidate to fight the Western Isles' seat Isles at the General Election next year will have the use of the Party's newly acquired office in Stornoway – and a campaign budget of £30,000.
Candidates for the Primary will need to have joined the Christian Party before the close of nominations on 21 January 2010, and will be subject to a Criminal Records Bureau check and an interview by the local party selection committee.
Nominating Officer, William Thompson, noted: "We obviously do not want to have somebody who is a member of another party or a person of ill-repute. Furthermore, with the investment that we shall put into the campaign we will require assurances that any contender will not simply de-camp once elected. Indeed, we have design safeguards to deal with such a scenario."
Voting in the Primary will run from noon on Thursday 21 January 2010 to 10pm on Thursday 11 February 2010. The result will be published by the Electoral Reform Service on Friday 12 February 2010.
The voting will be via a website setup and controlled by the Electoral Reform Service and a secure Interactive Voice Response (IVR) voting Freephone number, also setup and controlled by the Electoral Reform Service.
