Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has reached agreement with Loganair to provide additional rotations on the Glasgow-Barra air service on a pilot basis between the end of May and the end of August 2014.
This would see a total of thirty additional rotations on the route for the summer period.
Comhairle Leader, Cllr Angus Campbell, said, “We have had positive discussions in relation to the provision of thirty additional rotations which would mean that there would be a double rotation on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from the end of May until the end of August. Added to the existing provision, this would deliver a double rotation every day operated for that fifteen week period. Double rotations are already in place on Saturdays from the end of March until the end of September.”
Cllr John MacKay, Chair of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, said, “The Comhairle has long been committed to improving air services on the Glasgow-Barra route in line with community aspirations and we are pleased with these latest plans for additional rotations during the summer months.”
The Comhairle is seeking appropriate contributions from HIE and HITRANS towards the service.
