Concerns over lack of island input on new Police Board

A lack of island input and vast cuts in funding are major issues of concern for the former Convener of Northern Joint Police Board who chaired his final meeting last week.

Point councillor Norman M Macleod has spent the last 14 years at the forefront of decision making on the Police and Fire Services in the Highlands and Islands and says he hopes the new Single Services for Scotland will be a ‘tremendous success’ – but does have strong reservations.

In just over three weeks, all eight of Scotland’s forces will become part of a Single Police Force marking the end of a 38 year period for Northern Constabulary. The final meeting of the Highlands and Islands Fire Board also took place last week in the run up to the Single Scottish Fire Service.
