Comhairle Convener Norman M MacDonald paid tribute to two island centenarians at last week’s meeting of the full Comhairle.
Miss Catherine Anne MacLeod from Back recently celebrated her 100th birthday. Miss Macleod was a primary teacher in Back School for most of her career. She is currently a resident in Dun Eisdean and is still very interested in politics at both local and national levels.
Cllr MacDonald also paid tribute to Mrs Murdina MacLeod from Carloway who also celebrated her 100th birthday recently. In her youth, Mrs MacLeod, like many young island girls, went into service first in Argyll and then in Central Scotland. During the War she joined the Women’s Royal Air Force (the WAAFS) and was stationed in many areas around the United Kingdom. Mrs MacLeod still lives on the family home in Carloway and is still quite independent.
