Ferry softplay replaced with new puzzle area
The softplay area has been removed from MV Isle of Lewis due to safety fears.
CalMac say the softplay area on the Stornoway-Ullapool ferry has led to several children injuring themselves during passage.
The popular play area has been replaced with a puzzle and games area in line with all CalMac vessels.
A CalMac spokesman: “We have been revamping the children’s areas in all our ships following concerns about safety. We have had at least one broken arm and several bad knocks, and complaints about boisterous children running about, especially close to people carrying hot drinks.”
He added: “The soft play area on the MV Isle of Lewis was the last in the fleet and due for refurbishment so we have taken the opportunity to replace it with a modern play area with puzzles and games, which keep children entertained, but calmer and less likely to injure themselves or others. We recognise that these areas are popular with children and parents alike, especially on the longer crossings, and feedback from other ships is that this new approach has been well received.”
