Fisherman in hospital after slipping off ladder

A twenty-three year old fisherman from Campbelltown is in Western Isles Hospital with serious back injuries following a fall.

The fisherman sustained his injuries after slipping off a ladder and falling into the hold of the Oban registered fishing vessel ‘Star of Jura’ on July 24th.

The boat was 12 miles out of Tarbert, in Harris, when the accident took place. The ‘Star of Jura’ contacted Stornoway Coastguard who advised them to make best speed for Tarbert.

One arrival at Tarbert, the link span was lowered to allow a level transfer with the casualty being transferred by ambulance to hospital, where he continues to be supported by Stornoway Fishermens Mission.
