Fishermen plucked from sea in dramatic rescue
THREE fishermen have been airlifted from the seas just west of the Sound of Harris as fishing vessel ‘The Achieve’ floundered and sank.
Stornoway RNLI all-weather Severn class lifeboat the ‘Tom Sanderson’ launched at 3.45pm to the incident – which was first believe to have occurred in The Minch.
The Stornoway coastguard search and rescue helicopter lifted off at 3.55pm to the aid of the casualties which had entered the fishing boat’s life-raft near Gafker.
Detail of the incident are still unknown however, the coastguard chopper lifted three men from the life-raft and have transferred them to Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway for medical examination.
