The Urras Oighreachd Ghabhsainn (Galson Estate Trust) are delighted to announce that the final stage in the delivery of the first community wind turbine has been achieved.

Carola Bell from Galson Energy/UOG is pictured receiving the keys to the turbine from Enercon after it sailed through testing at the end of January without any faults.

The Trust are also pleased to report that the turbine is performing well and in line with forecasts for this time of year.

And they hope to be in a position soon to launch an initial Community Investment Fund to enable some distribution of wind turbine income to worthwhile causes around the Estate.

At the turbine turn-on at the end of 2013, Agnes Rennie, Chair of Urras Oighreachd Ghabhsainn, said: “The energising of the first turbine is a great boost to Urras Oighreachd Ghabhsainn and shows it is delivering its ambition to create a long-term sustainable estate in the north-west of Lewis.

“We are entering another exciting phase of progress for this community and the Trustees are committed to building on this momentum.”
