Julie is Gaelic Ambassador of the Year

SINGER and musician Julie Fowlis has been named as Gaelic Ambassador of the Year at the opening ceremony of the National Mod in Falkirk.

Western Isles MSP, Alasdair Allan, offered his congratulations on the award and said:

"Julie Fowlis has achieved world-wide acclaim for her music, and I am delighted that the positive impact this exposure has had on the Gaelic language is now recognised by this Scottish Government-sponsored award.

"Having won many awards within the music industry, it is only fitting that she is also recognised in this way; specifically in appreciation of her services to the Gaelic language.

"I hope that in years to come, the award will serve to recognise others who have raised the profile of Gaelic at home and abroad.

"Its first recipient will be a hard act to follow."
