Julie is delighted to perform at the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

The Western Isles will take its place in the official Opening Ceremony of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games as North Uist talent Julie Fowlis takes to the stage.

The singer’s involvement was revealed on the Julie Fowlis (Musician/Band) Facebook page where Julie said: “After months of secrecy, I am delighted (and more than a little terrified) to formally announce that I’ll be taking part in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Official Opening Ceremony on July 23rd at Celtic Park Stadium.
“The Opening Ceremony will be performed to a 40,000 strong audience and an estimated TV audience of over a billion. The other announced acts include Grammy Award winner Rod Stewart, Susan Boyle, Amy MacDonald and Nicola Benedetti.”
Julie added: “Agus – anns a’ chuirm-fhosglaidh tha mi a’ dol a sheinn òran à Uibhist a Tuath. Suas leis a’ Ghàidhlig!”
