The Isle of Lewis has been confirmed as the location for shooting a TV adaptation of the hugely popular and much loved children’s book character Katie Morag.

Filming on the live action 26 part Cbeebie series based on the books by author and illustrator Mairi Hedderwick will being in May this year, lasting four months, and is expected to bring the Isle of Lewis to a whole new audience.

The cast has not yet been chosen but the island has been pinpointed as the ideal setting to portray the magical island of Struay, where Katie lives with her mother who is the island post mistress and her father who runs the general store.

Island studio facilities will be used by Scottish production company Move on Up during the filming of the series which is hoped will help boost tourism in the Western Isles when it is aired in Autumn this year - as well as pave the way for more productions in the future.
