Lifelong learning is recognised as great way of maintaining, and improving, health and well-being – and to promote community learning opportunities, learning taster sessions will be available as part of the programme for the forthcoming ‘Western Isles Mental Health and Arts Film Festival’.
Community Learning Hebrides, which is run by the Community Learning and Development department of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, have been working in partnership with NHS Western Isles to develop the festival where members of the community have the opportunity to try out new learning options in an informal and relaxed environment.
The taster sessions will be run in the art room of An Lanntair, located on the lower ground floor, on Thursday 10th October which is World Mental Health Day.
The learning tasters available that day will be centred on Photography (10am to 12 noon) and Crafts (2pm to 4pm), the sessions are free and pre-booking is not required. Graeme Miller, Community Education Officer, said: ‘The whole festival is a great opportunity for adults in the Western Isles to get involved in positive activities and the community learning taster sessions will hopefully be an easy way in for anyone looking to get involved in community learning.”
