Local businesses in Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards final
Stornoway-based Hebridean Luxury Holidays features among the 25 strong shortlist of the best tourism businesses in the region in this year's Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards.
The awards scheme, which is one of the most coveted accolades in the industry and recognises tourism players at the top of their game, is designed to reflect the high quality, diversity and innovation synonymous with tourism today in the Highlands and Islands.
The 2009 winners will be announced at a glittering award ceremony and dinner at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness on November 20.
The company has been shortlisted in the Marketing Initiative which is awarded to a tourism business or partnership that can clearly demonstrate a successful and creative marketing activity that has successfully brought additional visitors and income to the Highlands and Islands, using well-researched, unique and innovative schemes which capture the opportunities created in their region.
Graham McLellan of Hebridean Luxury Holidays said: "We are delighted to be nominated for a Highlands and Islands Tourism Award. We have worked hard to promote not only our properties but also the over-all Lewis experience. This has paid dividends for us and I would like to thank my team and the partners we work with on Lewis for making this possible."
Also making the 25-strong shortlist are five of Skye & Lochalsh's top tourism operators: Duisdale House Hotel; Toravaig House Hotel; Sonas Hospitality; walkhighlands.co.uk and Simon Wallwork at the Glenview Inn and Restaurant.
Duisdale House Hotel has also been shortlisted for the Marketing Initiative Award pitting them against Hebridean Luxury Holidays.
Sonas Hospitality and walkhighlands.co.uk go head to head in the Most Entrepreneurial Business Award, alongside Active Outdoor Pursuits in Newtonmore; and Toravaig House Hotel, Sleat joins The Princes House Hotel at Glenfinnan, Muckrach Lodge Hotel at Dulnain Bridge and Craggan Mill Restaurant at Grantown-on-Spey in the hotly contested Highland Dining Out Experience Award.
People as well as businesses from Skye have been recognised in this year's awards and Simon Wallwork, Head Chef at the Glenview Restaurant and Rooms at Staffin, has been shortlisted for Young Ambassador of the Year.
Simon commented: "I was trained in Australia but moved to my new home of Scotland nine years ago gaining experience in several rosetted restaurants before finally realising my ambition and dream of opening my own restaurant at The Glenview two years ago.
"As a chef, using local producers and suppliers is of paramount importance to me, not only to minimise the environmental impact of the transportation of the food, but also because Scottish produce is among the best in the world and I feel privileged to have such an abundant larder on my doorstep. By using local ingredients I ensure my menus not only stay true to the seasons but also celebrate them.
"Being shortlisted in the Young Ambassador of the Year category is a real honour, and I'm very grateful to our young and passionate team here at The Glenview who help ensure that our guests receive an outstanding overall experience from their visit to Skye and to The Glenview."
