Loganair introduce direct Monday Edinburgh flight

Phil Preston, chief operating officer of Loganair, has said the company will be running a direct flight between Stornoway and Edinburgh on Mondays and have cut the Friday flight due to “consistently-low passenger numbers”.

The direct Edinburgh/Stornoway Monday flight has been welcomed by Leader of the Comhairle Angus Campbell who had refuted earlier claims from local SNP politicians that the decision to cut the Friday flight was due to last months budget cuts.

Mr Preston said: “It is with regret that due to consistently-low passenger numbers Loganair has been forced to make a commercial decision to withdraw the Friday morning service between Edinburgh and Stornoway.

“We have however introduced a new direct, Monday morning service between Stornoway and Edinburgh, departing the Isle of Lewis at 8.50am and arriving in the capital at 10am, 30 minutes earlier than the current schedule.”

Loganair have also confirmed that the Monday Stornoway/Inverness service will still operate.

Mr Campbell said: “The loss of the Friday morning service is similar to commercial decisions taken on other routes and is entirely due to the consistently low number of passengers. However, a new service on the Monday morning is a welcome move.”
