A long term solution for out of hours GP cover in North Harris is still unclear with temporary arrangements now in place.
The situation has arisen as two GPs at the practice are leaving with Dr Angus McKellar taking up a new position as Medical Director at NHS Western Isles and another doctor retiring.
A spokesperson for NHS Western Isles said the service for patients would be fully covered.
She said: “Current out of hours provision in North Harris is unchanged. Provision in North Harris Practice is currently being covered fully with Out of Hours GP cover, pending a more permanent solution.
“NHS Western Isles is currently in discussion with the Scottish Ambulance Service, community nursing teams and GPs to develop a robust and sustainable solution for the population covered by North Harris Medical Practice.”
She added: “We anticipate that this work will take a number of months to complete in consultation with relevant public and patient interest groups.
“NHSWestern Isles is committed to ensuring that we have a safe and effective long-term solution.”
The Scottish Government recently announced that General Practitioners in Scotland will receive a one per cent pay increase as part of a £6 million investment in primary care.
The increase is in line with the pay rise all other NHS Scotland workers will receive in 2014/15.
