A picture perfect harbour-side scene greeted the crowds in Stornoway this afternoon (Saturday) as the Stornoway Port Authority officially opened its new marina extension.

Prettily festooned boats were berthed at the new pontoons, the number of berths for vessels has been increased from 27 to 85 and already demand means that a further ten berths will be added for the 2015 season.

Jane Maciver, Chief Executive of Stornoway Port Authority said: “We are delighted that the new facilities have proved such a hit with both visiting and resident yachts people.

“Feedback from visitors in particular has been enthusiastically positive with many new visitors saying they will be back again.

“We are very proud that our staff have once again featured in most comments from visitors, gaining Stornoway the reputation as the friendliest place to berth on the West Coast.”

Heralding the opening was the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band who paraded along the quayside and down to the pontoons and boasts, regaling the audience with a fine performance to mark the event.
