MSP responds to Post Office consultation

People would like to be reassured that the move won't affect the main post office in Stornoway

WESTERN Isles MSP Alasdair Allan, has submitted a response to the Post Office consultation on the proposal to move the sub-post office from its current site at the Trading Post in Bayhead in Stornoway to Engebret’s Filling Station and shop.

Alasdair Allan commented: “I have been contacted by a number of constituents who would wish to be reassured chiefly about two questions which they have in relation to this potential move. I appreciate that moving a service like this will always benefit some areas of a town to the detriment of others but the point has been made that the new site may be easier to access by car than on foot for many people, particularly the elderly, and I have asked the Post Office if this issue could be given consideration in the course of this consultation.

“The second question is that people would like to be reassured that the future of the main crown Post Office in Stornoway will not be materially affected in any way by this move.

“I think it would be useful for there to be further discussion with the community around these questions to ensure that whatever is finally decided it enjoys the broadest possible support within those who will be using this service locally.”
