The new Stornoway-Ullapool ferry, MV Loch Seaforth, is taking shape.

This photograph was taken at the shipyard in Flensberg, Germany this week showing the bridge of the ship.

The ship will be officially launched on March 21st when she will also be formally named. Work will only begin on the interior of the ship after the launch and so she is not expected to arrive in Stornoway until July when sea trials will be undertaken before she enters service.

Currently known as Hull number 674, she will become MV Loch Seaforth at the ceremony when named by the ship’s godmother.

The ship’s godmother will be Mrs Joan Murray. Joan is the eldest daughter of the late Captain John Smith he was the Captain of the original MV Loch Seaforth which sailed between Stornoway and Kyle of Lochalsh and Mallaig from 1947 until 1972.
