No snow for islands

editorial image

Despite the threat of heavy snowfall on the mainland, the Western Isles look set to have a fine but cold weekend.

The Stornoway Gazette’s weather correspondent Dr Eddie Graham from Lews Castle College is forecasting a sunny weekend but warns it will be bitterly cold and there are likely to be ‘black frosts’.

On his blog he wrote: “Well, with all the fuss down south over the big blizzard of January 2013, the weather will be in complete contrast here on the Isles with hardly a flake of snow to be seen. Instead it’ll be fine with glorious winter sunshine, but with also a penetrating raw and cold south-easterly wind, leading to a “black frost” (invisible) during the nights. Perhaps the odd flurry of snow in the Uists and Barra tomorrow, but nothing significant.”
