Residents of South Lochs and other members of Pairc Trust are taking part in a postal ballot on the terms of an Amicable Estate Transfer negotiated between Pairc Trust and the Pairc Estate.
The outcome of the vote should be known on the evening of Thursday 13th March.
At the public meeting held on 21st November 2013 a proposal to accept the terms of a voluntary (amicable) transfer of the Pairc Estate to the Pairc community negotiated by Pairc Trust was overwhelmingly endorsed by those present (56 in favour, 0 against, 4 abstentions).
Following this meeting, Pairc Trust made a formal offer to the landlord for the transfer of the Estate on this basis. This has led to further discussions with the landlord on the details of the transfer of the Estate into community ownership.
All funding is now in place to cover the agreed purchase price of the Estate (£500,000); associated legal costs; and revenue costs for 2 full-time posts and associated costs over the first two years following purchase.
At the November meeting, it was agreed to consult the community again once agreement with the landlord had been reached on the details of the amicable transfer. The detailed documentation is expected to be concluded, subject to endorsement by the community, by Friday 7th March.
The detailed documentation will be made available for inspection at Ravenspoint and Gravir Post Office. Directors of Pairc Trust will also be available to answer questions and discuss any aspect of the proposals at the Resource Centre, Kershader, on Friday 7th March from 3.00pm to 9.00pm.
Following feedback at the Pairc Trust’s AGM on 20th February, it was decided to hold a postal ballot, rather than a show of hands (with a facility for proxy votes) as originally planned. Comhairle nan Eilean Siar have been asked to carry out the ballot as an independent organisation.
Ballot papers on whether or not to agree to the terms of the Amicable Estate Transfer were issued today and should be returned by Thursday 13th March. The results are expected to be announced by CnES at a public meeting starting at 7.30pm at Pairc School, Gravir, on Thursday 13th March.
