Piping and Drumming Week returns to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig

SABHAL Mòr Ostaig, the National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture on the Isle of Skye, welcomes back one of Scottish piping's true greats, Iain MacFadyen, to tutor at the college next month.

Iain will be joined by Andrew MacPherson from Portree in leading a Piping and Drumming week (July 5-9) for youngsters wishing to improve their skills and technique.

Iain spent nearly thirty years as a Piping Instructor within schools in Skye and Lochalsh and has been an inspiration to many pupils who have benefitted from his teaching. He comes from a famous family of pipers which hailed originally from Bunessan on the Isle of Mull and he took up the pipes at an early age. He went on to become one of the most successful competitors of his or any other generation, having won all the premier awards including the coveted Grant's/Glenfiddich championship four times. He was recently made a Fellow of the Educational Institute of Scotland for his outstanding contribution to Scottish education.

Susanne MacDonald, Short Course Manager at Sabhal Mr Ostaig said: "We are delighted that Iain will be joining us again this year and that we are able to offer young people the opportunity to learn from a real master of the profession.

"Anyone attending the course will benefit greatly from the incredible talent and experience of both Iain and Andrew and it is sure to be a great week of pipe and drum music."

For further information or to book a place on the course contact Susanne MacDonald on 01471 888246.
