Public Meeting tonight - European Parliament and you

On Thursday May 22nd 2014, voters go to the polls to elect six Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) for Scotland.

In preparation for this important event which takes place only every five years, the EUROPE DIRECT information centre in the Outer Hebrides has invited Mr Björn Kjellström, Head of the European Parliament Information Office in the UK and Mr Per Johannson, Head of the European Parliament Information Office in Edinburgh, to come to the islands to share with local voters the importance of participating in this Election.

Mr Kjellström will address a public meeting and answer all your questions in the Council Chambers, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Sandwick Road, Stornoway on Monday 17 March 2014 at 7.30pm where he will be assisted by Mr Derek Mackay, Depute Returning Officer in the Comhairle who will explain more on the voting and electoral process. Mr Per Johansson will address a public meeting and answer all your questions in Sgoil Lionacleit on Wednesady 19th March 2014 at 7.00pm with the assistance of Mr Derek Mackay. Come along and discover the relevance the European Parliament has to our everyday lives and how your vote can influence its decisions. Mr Kjellström and Mr Johansson will outline the role of the European Parliament, its area of influence and ways in which you can influence the decisions of the Parliament.
