Results from Carloway independence debate

Around 70 local residents from Carloway gathered in the community centre for a debate on independence on Friday 18th April.

The debate was hosted by Angus MacDonald of BBC Scotland. Speaking for Yes nan Eilean Siar was local MSP, Dr Alasdair Allan and Back businessman, Gordon ‘Diesel’ MacLennan and speaking for Better Together was former MP Brian Wilson and former Isles MSP Alasdair Morrison.

The public Q&A session, organised by Carloway Community Association, heard from all four panellists before the audience put questions to the panel.

The audience were then asked to cast a vote at the end of the meeting. After the count if was revealed 24 people voted ‘No’ to independence, 4 people were undecided and 37 people voted for independence.
