Scotland's Islands project continues to gain momentum
THE Scotland's Islands 2011 project continues to gain momentum.
The initiative which aims to address both social and economic objectives and build on the success of Highland 2007 and Homecoming 2009 – Scotland's Islands has been developed through a partnership of the six local authorities with island communities – Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Orkney, Shetland, Highland, Argyll and North Ayrshire.
The project aims to promote island culture, including contemporary and traditional art and music, to mainland audiences and will offer the potential for the cross fertilisation of ideas between communities.
Following the appointment of the company Redpath to create a new branding mark and guidelines for the initiative, Convenor of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar who are the lead authority on the project commented:
"I am pleased with how the project is developing and delighted with our new logo. I am confident that Scotland's Islands will be a fantastic celebration of the culture and heritage of Scotland's Islands."
Creative Director of Redpath, Iain Lauder said:
"With such a range of cultural influences and communities to represent it was obvious that we needed to use abstract colour and shape to convey the breadth and diversity of cultures and geography.
"What connects them all is the fact that while they are all unique island communities, they are all also Scotland's islands in the broadest sense."
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar have appointed an Administrator who will take up post week commencing August 16 and Project Managers will be in place by the end of August 2010.
