.

The Public Petitions Committee held a work shop this morning (Friday 15th) as part of the Scottish Parliament Day in the Western Isles.

The workshop gave local people the opportunity to learn more about how to petition Parliament and was held in the council buildings in Stornoway.

Seven MSPs from the Committee were there to talk to members of the public at the open session that ran from 11am.

Next on the agenda is the official meeting of the Public Petitions Committee that will take place in the Comhairle Chamber at 2pm today.

Petitions due to be discussed include one on the decision to cut inter-island flights as well as the Barra Youth Council petition on Wi-Fi for ferries.

Meanwhile the Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick MSP is travelling around the islands today meeting local community groups.

She is joined by local MSP Alasdair Alan and will meet with the Harris Great Tapestry of Scotland Group, Hebrides Alpha Project and visit the Seallam Visitor Centre as well as hosting a meeting of community groups based in Harris.
